Sarah McHugh

"We live in a world of far too much chaos, confusion and sometimes even outrage causing so much stress in our lives (which also brings on illness). With my art, I seek to counteract all that, to paint the ever constant inspiration of the beauty and life that exists in nature with the hope that it also resonates within the viewer as a healing contemplative relief as it has been to me.”

Art by People Who Know Healthcare Best

Graduate studies at Pratt, Hunter College, The National Academy of Design and The Art Students League gave Sarah exposure to a variety of influences, methods, and philosophies, fine tuning her sensibilities to enhance her work, an ongoing process. During these early formative years, while living in New York City, much of her energy was spent teaching art while raising her children until economics and the need for comprehensive, affordable health care required that she spend the next 17 years in the corporate environment, making her own art only when time allowed.
It was not until her breast cancer was diagnosed (twice, a couple of years apart in the same breast, two different types successfully operated on) that her Angel of Angels brought her to The Creative Center and the wake-up call occurred. Having gone through the physical and emotional stresses of this life changing experience and through the caring AND creatively stimulating community of other survivors at The Center, she was able to return to art again, to find her own voice and truly start the creative process.
Sarah’s work has been exhibited in NYC at The ABC Gallery, The Pfizer Gallery, The GracieSquare ArtShow. Further exhibits include her first solo show in 2005 at The Gallery at Port of Call in Warwick, NY and later at the Albert Wisner Library. The recipient of several awards in juried shows for her work shown at annual events at the Lycian Center in Sugarloaf, The Orange County Art Federation Annual, The WAL Membership Show, The Bertoni Gallery and The Ringwood Artists Association. She continues to show her art throughput the Hudson Valley, her chosen home for the last 13 years and iscurrently represented in ongoing display byLAM Lighting and Design in Goshen and The Warwick Valley Olive Oil Company as well as St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick.
